device name shows up but when clicked it says device does not exist on network?

I had to rename a machine and the new name shows up in network neighborhood, but you can not access it? At first i thought the network just needed some time to update everything but it has been a whole day now and several reboots and its still not accesible? It is a WIN XP Pro machine that was renamed?
