device manager reading IDE as a SCSI

ya thats what i thought to so i did an install with it and im still having the same prob

and im not sure why but in device manager under SCSI and RAID Controllers its showing up as WinXP Promise Ultra100 (tm) IDE Controller (PDC20265)

Im not even sure if this is the problem anymore, but ill be damned if i have an inkly of what it is.
 
you got another copy of XP? XP has more updated "in- house" drivers, and seems a little smarter on updating drivers than 2k...

beyond that, you could just mail it to me- I could probably beat it into submission...
