Device Manager Issues

In the process of reviving an older PC build of some years ago. Reinstalled OS (XP3). Unable to connect to internet. DSL with Router (LAN). The other similar PCs are connected to it and work fine.

PC is the older Biostar TForce 6100 T-Series. I have a few device manager devices that are not working. One of them is the ethernet controller device.

A few ???? if you will? Need some input as to what to do to establish the Internet connection? Also how to resolve the device manager issues and if that will help to resolve this matter? Appreciate any an all suggestions that will assist. Thank you for taking the time to share your expertise with this/these issues. SM

You need to download the nForce 410 Chipset driver on a different pc, to a usb stick, and then install it to the Biostar PC. That should solve a lot of device manager issues and fix your ethernet. Then you can load rest of the drivers if you need to.

Thought you might like to know that this SC was able to follow your instructions and advice. It was also considerate of Biostar to post the downloads free for users. That took care of just about all the device manager issues with the exception of - One!

Thinking that the on board Lan may not be working I installed a Seimens Speed Stream PCI 1020 ethernet card that I believe is the last device that is not installed???? Trying to find a free direct driver download for the device is rather difficult so far. Most of the sites I came across are offering drivers or up to date drivers want a fee, subscription, or account to assist.

If you're loading XP SP3, I would potentially tell you to consider looking at Linux... Ubuntu maybe. Not sure if you need to play games or what not, but if given the choice between XP and Ubuntu, I am picking Ubuntu. And, I am a Windows guy.

I definitely like Win10 and Win7/8 better than Ubuntu, but for the cost Ubuntu is always worth a shot.

Some years ago I looked at, and downloaded some linux distributions but never got very far. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll look into that and I believe this Forum has a linux section. This was posted on the Linuxmint site.

You have to do more than just download that. It's actually a zip file in .exe form. Clicking it just unpacks the driver package. You will have to go to device manager & browse/find the unzipped Ethernet driver that's for your particular O.S.

I appreciate the suggestion and will give Ubuntu or a distro similar consideration when that time comes. Thanks for taking the time to offer suggestions. Don't get involved with games just the basics. SM USAF 62-66

Took care of that today. Unplugged the ethernet card. That cleared the ethernet device? Thanks again - nicely done. SM
