Device Manager does not show CD Drives

My device manager does not show my cd or dvd drives. I did a windows repair on XP and it showed the drives in the device manager. However, after the repair, I restored my back up image and the drives do not show in the device manager? I am running XP Pro

Try scanning for hardware changes (an option if you right click on the computer in device manager).

- Check the jumper setting on the devices? Is one of them master and the other slave? If they are both master or both slave then that could be the reason.
- If that's not the case you can remove them and try to add them one by one (check the bios if it sees a drive)
- use an other ide cable, maybe yours is broke
- do you use SATA? If you are running windows on SATA harddisk check the bios if you perhaps turned off PATA.

Well, these are the things I would check 🙂
