Device connect/disconnect logging?

Quite a few times I've walked into the room where my desktop is located, only to hear the "Device connect" then "Device disconnect" sounds from my speakers. None of these times have I touched the keyboard or mouse when I heard the sounds.

System is running Windows 7, no mics or webcams connected.
Is there some type of logging software where I can see what's going on?

In my experience, this is typically USB, and typically a loose connection/bad cable somewhere. If you don't have anything connected USB at the time (not that I doubt you, but very surprised), try this: unhook the front panel USB corrections or any PCI bracket USB connections you may have, and see if the problem goes away.

I do have USB devices connected. None of those devices are within 8' from the door.
The reason I noted no mic or webcam connected is that they are devices that could possibly be triggered by the sound or motion of me walking through the doorway.

Gotcha. Anything with a deteriorating cable will make that noise, so you may want to start by simply unplugging what you have and see if anything changes.

I've installed the Nirsoft USB logger. Now I'll wait to see what's cycling.
I've got plenty of replacement cables.
