The same thing happened to my dad when he was playing basketball in HS. Unfortunately when I was about 7 my dad threw a fastball straight at my face and got me good in the nose. I suspect, but don't know for *sure*, that this is what caused my septum to become deviated, but it did. This is combination with swollen turbinates because of allergies, made it almost impossible for me to breathe through my nose. I had a surgery when I was 13 to correct both my septum and my turbinates. I had a second surgery because "it looked like someone went in there with an A-bomb". I can now breathe, but my turbinates are acting up so I may need surgery AGAIN, but I have some advisory that this will cause a buildup of scarred tissue which is very *bad*. But that's a different story..
Anyways, the first surgery was traumatic for me. They used an obsolete anesthetic and I couldn't stop puking after waking up from the operation. This went on for two weeks. I thought I was going die from malnutrition or something. The second surgery went great, I managed to puke only one time following the operation, and after the splints came out I felt right as rain. I think you have a good chance of getting a surgery like my second time, so I say go for it, cause being able to breathe is good for getting sleep as well as cosmetic reasons
