Developers need to get on the ball with offering full HD installs on the PS3 already

So I love me some Red Dead Redemption, I've put probably 60 hours into it on the PS3. 59 of those hours have been spent listening to it work away at pulling data off of the BD disc since the game only installs 600MB of the game to the PS3's HD. It's annoying, and is no doubt wearing away at the optical drive as well. There's no reason IMO that Rockstar couldn't have at least had an option for a full HD install of the game (like Valkyrie Chronicles and 3D Dot Gaming Heroes for example). Game developers really need to step it up on the PS3 in this regard, I have a 250GB HD in my PS3 and I want to take advantage of that. The pop in and load times in RDR could be greatly improved if all of the game was loading from the hard drive instead of the disc, I can't even fathom why they decided to only go with a tiny 600MB of the data to be installed to the HD.

While others have complained about mandatory HD installs on the PS3, I think it's stupid not to at least offer it as an option. Games with much smaller budgets have and it always improves the experience to have all the data sitting on the HD.

I agree. It's one of the bigger things the 360 has on the PS3, but I don't think it has anything to do with the developers enabling it. Every game that is out can be installed to the HDD on the 360, so it's just a matter of Sony letting you install the game image to the HDD and compressing it properly so it performs the same. There's probably a storage issue though, as the bluray discs are of a much higher capacity than the DVDs.

only a handful of games actually use the full disc with unique files.

a lot of the data is duplicated to compensate for access time.

I would like this a lot too. Long loading times suck when you're only using 20% of your hdd space.

With HDDs in 100% of the units, I had assumed that this would be an option from launch.

I continue to be disappointed, though.
