But it is definetly not trouble-free. On my first computer, it runs relatively slow, but the main problem is there are alot of artifacts...And it's not my video card, I know that much. Anyone else try it yet?

Forget Doom 3 yes - it's the same crap with new textures.

Half Life 2 on the other hand....I maintain interest ;)

Personally, though, I wouldn't be surprised if STALKER owns them all.

This game brings my Ti4600 to it's knees at anything over 800x600 and even that is occasionally choppy.

Specs:

XP 3000+
1 gig RAM
nForce2 @ 333
120 gig WDSE

I also needed to update the drivers to the 52.16 series before it looked right.

Anyone find the HUD to be extremely annoying? Maybe they can make it more towards the middle of the screen next time

Same here. I really DON'T like the HUD. More specifically the location of it and the fact that it is distracting during game play. Unfortunately it is probably there to stay.

Yeah, I'm getting some pretty bad framerates with my Athlon XP 2800 w/ GF4 4200. Hopefully the final version runs a little better. I've certainly been able to play all the latest games (Max Payne 2, Call of Duty, Halo) at good resolutions with good framerates, so I'd think I should at least be decent with this game.

There's a way to hide most of the HUD, so it only shows the center compass and the health bar and some other bar. They're still kind of in the top middle, but less distracting. Look for a way in the options, it's either a check box or a key to hit. I really hope a patch can give an alternate HUD design.

I was thinking it seemed like the X-box version (talking about auto-aim (useful for console gamepads, not for PC mouse & keyboard), and excessive loading times and whatnot). If that's true, then I'm certainly hopeful that the final PC version is much much better. Though it begs the question of why in the world they'd release a PC demo based off the Xbox port.

It works beter. Movement and graphics are an improvement. Makes this demo in little bit more enjoyable to play. They still need to do a lot of tweaking to make this game playable. This game s/b running with no problems on a 9500Pro @ 1024 x 768. Keep in mind, Demo will not run properly on ATI cards using the Catalyst 3.8 drivers. It is recommeded to update to the latest 3.9 drivers. Thanks for the tweaking tip.

Whatever. A little man casting stones at someone who is one of a kind in the world. There's NO ONE who has done as much for the gaming industry as Carmack- his "crap" is about 8,000,000X the achievement of your life's work dude. Prove me wrong if you can.

Nobody who has done more for the gaming industry? Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo, Yuji Naka of Sonic Team (Sega), Hironobu Sakaguchi (of Squaresoft/Squre-Enix) come to mind. There are others as well.

I think you mean the PC FPS industry, not the gaming industry as a whole.

Yes, Carmack is a wizard creating game engines, and Wolfenstein/Doom revolutionized the FPS genre (and were some of the first "3d" games), however I would never ever call Carmack the most important person to the gaming industry, not in a million years.

As for Doom3 - it should be good but we don't know for sure. Same with Half Life 2. It's all speculation until they're actually out. They both look to be awesome though. I hope the level design in Doom3 does Carmack's game design justice.

It runs great on my ti4800 system. All my systems match exept for the video cards. Im getting 38 fps at 1024X768 wit 4XAA and 4XAF :) I get better fps on my FX 5900.
The artifacts that you are seeing are almost excusive to people that have ATI graphic cards. :)

Also, what's with your pompous-@ss reply, calling someone else here a "little man". As if you're SO great and accomplished. Just stick to your second part of saying Carmack has achieved more than we ever will (which is probably true) but please try to refrain from such pathetic name calling.

Back on topic - now that my internet is back up to full speed I'm getting Deus Ex now .. can't wait to try it out!

No problems so far with my 9700np ,however I did do those PC tweaks for the game which runs real smooth @1280x1024.

Played the demo a bit (after tweaking the hell out of it). This game performs like sh!t on my machine (P4 2.8@ 3.3, 1 GB dual channel DDR, GF4 Ti4800). I'm talking 30-80fps in most situations at 800X600, but more like 20fps whenever there's action. What a joke.

Btw this game looks awesome once you set up the video - move that HUD over, take off "Bloom", etc.

I get very minor artifacts along the edge of the screen at 800X600 and 1024X768 (although both of those resolutions perform pretty crappy). At 640X480 I don't get artifacts and the game still looks good. Performance at 640 still isn't what I'd like it to be. This game actually runs worse than Halo!

This game runs fine on my system 1024x768 it even runs better then Halo did !!!! YEY /// ;)
2500+ AthlonXP @t 1.8Ghz 1GB DDR400 Dual Channel Geforce FX5900nu

I guess all you guys with 3.3Ghz CPU's should take note that my 1.8Ghz CPU is more then enough and a better videocard is the key too running this game good.
