Devs lack the intelligence and creativity to match Deus Ex 1... So, like Fallout, they release a piece of shit and call it by the same name.

Consolized.

Consolized.

Consolized.

I'll take my money to a dev that doesn't treat me like a 16-yr old CoD moron.

I wonder if their choice to do that highlighting has to do with console hardware limitations - namely, that games must work on TVs, which have a wider range of image quality compared to modern computer displays. So the graphics can't be very subtle even when the game's overall nature would be best served by subtle.

And those computer displays already differ from each other a good bit. I downloaded one particular wallpaper that was supposed to have a flat black background. Its creator had done a lot of erasing with what he thought was a black brush, but was gray. Not very-subtly-lighter-than-black, but GRAY. The result viewed on a decent IPS screen was lulzy.

You know, I really don't have a problem with the highlighting.

The character you play is enhanced with cybernetic implants. It's not unconceivable that he'd have an implant or piece of software that would analyze what he's seeing and project the highlighting over interactable objects.

It's also not inconceivable that his weapon aiming would be completely computerized, that he'd have spy drones that would tell him when the coast was clear, have automatic augmentation activation, and a nanny that would walk him through the steps of wiping his ass. But that's not Deus Ex.

The problem with highlighting is that it is either going to be locked in on spelling out exactly what the programmers want you to do in any given location, or they'll fill it with spam to try to distract you from all the times it's spelling out exactly what the programmers want you to do. Instead of experiencing the game world you'll be playing a highlighting filter.
