Detroit and the Super Bowl in 2006

Living somewhat near Detroit I can't help but think that there is no way in hell the NFL will allow the Super Bowl to be played there in 2006; they're going to take it away. There's no way they'll restore their 12-block perimeter zone around the field, the little street lights that exist down there most of the time don't work and they're still building the casinos.

Enjoy it New Orleans or Miami.

for some reason i looked because i thought it would be something about the Detroit *Lions* having something to do with Superbowl 2006 😉

Meh, I don't think the security will too much of an issue, but the city isn't really prepared for that large of an event yet. The hotels are in the process of being built, and would be the biggest issue. The casinos are ready, and we would very likely have another one (making it 4) by then.

Detroit's reps better beg and plead to keep the date, as it's exactly what the city needs to help it grow.

All I know is they HAVE to do something about the parking... There's been a few times where I'll go downtown and there will be like a tigers game, a wings game, something going on at the fox, and the state theatre having something and I end up parking in a back alley somewhere like 7 blocks away. I can't imagine how $hitty traffic and parking will be downtown with all that media coverage and whatnot. You know damn well all of the places around the city will be having 'super bowl parties' so they will all be packed, not to mention how much worse it will be if the people mover is down like it seems to be for every auto show.

I thiink if D-Town can pull this off, then it will definately make the city become a hell of a lot nicer in the future. Between construction, parking, traffic, events and crime the city is absolutely nuts sometimes.

it doesn't matter just give the trophy to the Cardinals now...you know they'll have to win it by 2006 anyways 😛

LOL thats about as likely as the lions making the playoffs next year 😀

Detroit is a city that I love.

1967 said "we don't want you here," and so we all left the city to rot.

The Superbowl will go on there. People will rag on the city for years to come.

Why would you want to have the superbowl in that frozen wasteland?

Well, football was meant to be played in the cold, but Ford Field is covered.
Yes, but think about the tailgaters!

Detroit still needs to reconstruct, but I'm sick of all the idiots bashing it saying it can't be done.

Detroit is on the right track with those casinos. Greektown...the casino AND the surrounding area....are very nice. My fondest wish is that the melon-heads we have in office here in Ohio choke and die on their piety. A resort casino on Clevelands lakefront would save this town.

Place your bets now. I say they will 😀
