Hi,

Just upgraded to a 7800GTX from a long-line of non-nVidia cards (X800XL, 9700Pro, 8500LE, G400MAX) and I'm a little lost in the transition to nVidia's drivers.

My main concern is display profiles. With ATI, I could create a profile for normal use (1600x1200@85Hz) and one for Photoshop (2048x1536@60Hz) and then easily toggle back and forth from the system tray. Icons and windows would never go off screen and refresh rates would change as specified. How do I do this with nVidia reference drivers?

My secondary concern is more of an "comprehension" issue with performance profiles for different apps/games. I've setup a profile for F1 Challenge, one for UT2004, and one for HL2. Understand that OK, but do these performance profiles apply themselves whenever those games are run and then reset to default profile when done playing? Or, do I need to manually enable them before playing?

Lastly, is there a way to have the windows desktop at 1600x1200@60Hz, but have 3D 1600x1200@85Hz? ATI could do this... can nVidia? NB: reason for low refresh rates is the monitor... don't ask.

Any help is appreciated, particularly from those familiar with both nVidia and ATI drivers.

Are you sure it wasn't PowerStrip you used to create app profiles (in regards to refresh rate)? I was unaware CCC did that.

It always amazes me that people (especially former ATi owners) ask these sorts of questions - it's not as if the information isn't already available.

Briefly though, you should have a "NVIDIA Settings" icon in your taskbar.

If you don't, you can enable it from within the driver applet

You can change many things here including screen size and refresh rate (I reccomend you use RefreshForce to setup your refresh rates no matter what you have it's simple set 'n forget.

Also, since you like to use photoshop, I'm sure you are aware of the importance of screen calibration. You can set and save different color profiles (similar but unrelated to 3d settings profiles) in the driver, then access then from the taskbar icon. This is good if you prefer different settings for the desktop, photoshop, watching movies, etc.

Last of all, if you game at all (if you don't why buy a 7800GTX?), I strongly reccomend you download and make use of nHancer, which is a profile manager for 3d applications that allows you control over an amazing array of performance/IQ settings on an application by application basis.
