Is there a release date for DX8? Is there any point at this time to dl these drivers?

I downloaded and installed DX8 along with these drivers. My 3dMark score went down 300 points! arg. back to 7.0a and 6.47
 
Yes, didn't nVidia do the same with the 5.xx series? Released them officially at 5.12 then updated to 5.32? Anyways, I really want to see what nVidia has planed for this series, possibly a fix to their S3TC algorithm...
