Determining raid 5 overhead

rudder

Lifer
I always thought to determine raid overhead you just took the total number of drives and subtracted one. Say I have 6 20 gig drives in a raid 5, the I would have 100 gig of raid 5 storage. Is this correct thinking or is it generally percentage of total drive space?

You are correct.

Raid 0 - 0% overhead
Raid 1 - 50% overhead
Raid 5 - 1 Drive's worth of overhead (so the more total drives, the smaller the % overhead - Max is 33%)
