Back in the day i used to know pc building in/out, but nowadays i've been out of it.

So I picked up the 2GB set from Fry's in today's "Hot Deals",
but started to wonder if it will work in my system.

I have the Asus A7V8X-X, but it claims this:

"When using DDR400 the system supports a maximum of 2 banks of memory"
"When using DDR333 the system supports a maximum of 4 banks of memory"
"A single DIMM will either have 1 or 2 banks of memory"

HEre is what i bought:
DDR PC3200
CL=3
Unbuffered
Non-ECC
DDR400
2.6V
128Meg x 64

Is there any way to figure out how many banks each DIMM has?
Tried google, but all methods required memory installed....

Technically, its not that simple, as there are exceptions for both unbuffered and registered DIMMs. But as a rule of thumb, it will work out to be true most of the time with major brand modules. Just watch for the stuff that seems much cheaper than most other modules with the same specs. These will often prove the exception.
