How do you determine how many Watts in a PSU you need for your PC to run safely? What are the main components that play a factor (CPU, GPU, RAM, HDD, SDD)?

I have a i7-2600k that I have aspirations to OC at 4.8 - 5.0 ghz. And a 5780 HD Video Card. And two 2TB HDD that I hope to raid. How much power do I need to run this system? Or are these components irrelevant? If so, what is relevant?

Yeah, a good 450-500W would be plenty. Or you could get a decent 600-650 to give you room for upgrades down the road.

I am using a little less than 1/2 of what it says I would be using (185W versus 400W). I am encoding a movie right now, so my CPU is pegged. Would have to be some serious graphic card pull to get anywhere close to what it says I should be using.

BTW, the system is a core i5-2500k, ati 4850, multiple hard drives, 3 fans.

But see, you should still get a 1000w because that would be the safest option for you! :D
