Determine exactly what kind of RAM the PC has?

I've got a PC (Dell Dimension E520) whose HDD recently died, so I am in the process of backing up the data (that I can) using Ubuntu Live CD (awsome), at the same time as I go buy a new HDD I wanted to get some extra RAM (512megs for VISTA is kind of ridiculous) - but I want to get compatible RAM ...
So I was looking for a way to find out exactly what RAM it currently has... obviously can't boot into Windows ...
If this was a Windows Installation I would use CPUID (for example), but given that I am running off Ubuntu Live CD I've got pretty much no clue ...
I've also got SLAX LiveCD and Knoppix LiveCD (not sure if that helps).

Is there another way, a different tool (I can boot off) or even better a way within any of those Linux LiveCDs that I can find out all the details regading the RAM (speed, amount, manufacturer, etc...)

Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Thanks,

If you can get to the Internet, then, as noted, just tell the Crucial.com site which Dell you have. A quick check shows there are four slots, using a maximum of 1 GB per slot of PC2-5300 memory (DDR2 667). PC2-6400 (DDR2 800) should work, too. I'd just go ahead and get Crucial memory. Free shipping and the prices are NOT particularly high. 2 GB is $32.

Be sure to buy standard 1.8 Volt modules. Don't buy modules designed for overclocking that require 2.x volts, because the Dell may not be able to adjust its voltages automatically and there's no manual voltage setting. The modules that Crucial shows are 1.8V.

Open the case up & look at the RAM?

No, seriously...it's not that hard.

It'll have the type usually listed on the sticker.
