Detective Lennie Briscoe leaving "Law and Order"

I really loved the Lenisms at the end of each of the first scenes. He is my favorite character from the show. Man I can't believe how long he has been on the show. I can't believe they are going to remove him from the show to do another (4th) spin off from Law and Order. I would prefer he stayed on this show.

NEW YORK - It may be time for a less stressful job for Detective Lennie Briscoe.

Veteran "Law & Order" actor Jerry Orbach (news) is likely to leave the hit NBC drama after this season, his 12th as Briscoe, according to industry sources who would not speak for attribution on Friday.

Orbach may not venture too far professionally: he's reportedly in line for a job in the fourth installment of the crime franchise, "Law & Order: Trial By Jury."

That series is expected to join "Law & Order," "Law & Order: SVU" and "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" on the NBC schedule next fall.

Orbach has portrayed Briscoe since 1992, the show's third season. It's still going strong in the ratings for NBC, and reruns are also a hit on cable's TNT.

"Law & Order has a 15-year track record that (series creator and executive producer) Dick Wolf never comments about casting changes during the season," said Neil Schubert, a spokesman for Universal Studios.

The show will now officially suck.

I don't know about it sucking, but it won't be the same without him. It's amazing that the show has lasted as long as it has though. Actors move on in the business.

That sucks.... my other fav is Vincent D?Onofrio in CI... he's the master of just playing mind games.

So is his character on trial by jury going to be the same?

A fourth spin-off? It's like Star Trek or something.

The good thing is every single one of them so far rules! And they run multiple series at the same time.

Crime and Punishment sucked.

I blocked that one out of my mind and forgot about it 😛

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

I'll miss his one-liners before the opening credits 🙁

If I miss those I feel like I missed the most important part of the show. So this "Trial by Jury" thing...is it more of the "Order" part? I like how plain ole Law and Order has a nice mix of Law (detectives) and Order (McCoy). SVU rocks, but there's more Law and less Order.

Just watched his last episode... Damn. Briscoe and Logan were my favourite team, although Greene is really good too.

What really amazing is that there's none of the original cast left.

Sorry but NBC did NOT pick up his spin off show. So you will not be seeing him in the fall.

um, yes it is. It just won't be shown until mid-season.

They must have changed their minds then. As when NBC's new listing came out at first it was not there.
