Detection of External HDD in bios not happening,Need help !

I am using the dell inspiron 5520, windows 7 os 64 bit, I want to change the boot sequence to the newly bought external hdd,but i do not see the external hdd in the list when i go to the bios screen to change the boot sequence.
Step by step guidance and quick response would be highly appreciated ,

Are you sure that the 5520 is directly bootable by a USB external? That list should only show those that are. On my Thinkpad, I have to press F12 in order to access bootable externals.

According to this, that model Dell does not have a USB boot option.

Why not try to locate a bios update instead of using f12 to boot.
