Psu seemed like was going out wouldnt start so i connect green and black wire with some scissors then gfx card in it one the diods made a bright spark and smoked (HAH) was only a 7900gt at least but still lil sad.

Put diff psu and diff 7900gt and it fires up but when goes to "detecting ide" it freezes. I disconnect hd it goes past and if i connect hd in external the hd is fine. (thankfully) so i guess the mobo is toast?

simplest solution: go buy a pci IDE card or SATA card.

OK so cold boot, "detecting ide drives listed twice with .... and hangs"
If i restart it starts right up and detects the hd boots into windows fine. Tried second hd does same thing. Any ideas?

Are there any simple pci sata cards that boot fine? i bought one before but didnt seem like it would boot from it maybe i didnt try hard enough.

I have no experience with a pci SATA card.

I do have experience with an IDE card. Best move would be to turn off the onboard IDE so only the card can be seen. I have a cheap syba IDE raid card.

good luck.
