Details hammered out on BTX yet?

The last I heard Intel is currently reworking the BTX form factor and instead of a BTX there will be a CTX. They are doing this because the advantages of BTX can pretty easily be gotten by switching the motherboard to the other side of the case (some upcoming cases will have this feature). Also motherboard and case manufacturers weren't really accepting BTX (there were no BTX cases nor any motherboards shown at this years CeBit).

AMD and the rest of the industry are sort of ambivilant about it. It seems intel's position as industry leader isn't commanding enough to push these kinds of changes alone.

Cases will eventually need to be re-designed, when atx came out cpu's were much cooler and video card heat was non-existant. However, in the near future I think we'll see more solutions like Athlon64 and Pentium M processors, less prescotts, and more video coolers that use 2 slots exhausting hot air out the back.

Maybe by 2005, even powersupply manufactures will need to change.

I agree with what was said above, Intel just doesn't hold a huge influence in the gamer/enthusiats community anymore, so unless everyone is on the same page, Intel cannot possibly move to BTX by itself. I heard that they were working on a "CTX" factor though, but that's purely from memory.

Changes like this should be industry wide.

How many times will Intel try to make major changes, and ram them down everyone's throat?
How much money was wasted on Rambus, BTX, and a couple other things I can think of.

lol I remember that, Intel pushed RAMBUS like there was no tommorow, funny, there WAS no tommorow for RAMBUS now was there?

Actually, Rambus is used a lot. Just not in the general PC industry.

I'd like to know how BTX is waste?

People say it is a waste because you can emulate a similar airflow setup if you simply use a reverse ATX case, putting the CPU in front of the intake fan, and the heat rises up from there, and goes out the rear Now that I think of it, that would also put the video card fan facing upwards as well.

Except that BTX/CTX would still have a few advantages over ATX. Of course, it would be much smoother if ATI, NVidia, Intel and even AMD backed this setup.
