I just detailed my car on sunday
I spent about 3 hours.
I washed the car w/ Meguiars gold class car wash soap w/ two buckets with grit guard, then i dried it off w/ an absorber chamois thing, then i spotcleaned w/ meguiars quick detailing spray w/ claybar to get off all the tough bugs and dirt, mostly on my front and rear view mirrors. then using a PC7424 orbital buffer i used meguiars NXT 2.0 car wax (it's actually a sealant) w/ microfiber bonnets. waxed off with microfiber towels i got from autopia.org.
not my best work, but it turned out pretty good for being in a rush. it's been raining here for the last 6+ weeks and this was finally a break in the weather for me to be out and get a coat of wax on my car.
i spent over $200 on all my detailing gear, including the orbital buffer for $100 and it's lasted me a year and a half so far. i may not do as good a job as a pro yet, but i think once i get a garage i will have more patience and energy to wax better and more often.
I am considering taking it to a pro detailer at the end of summer to see how much better of a job they can do over me.
