Destroyed package - Chances anything inside survived?

So the lady from the Post Office shows up to my door today with the Nixie Clock kit package i've been anxiously waiting for....

When she held out a plastic bag with 'We Care' plastered on the side and a football shaped box inside, I knew it wasn't good.

Box Pic 1
Box Pic 2

So, what are the odds that everything in the package survived? I'm gonna go with 0%, no way in hell considering how fragile most of the stuff is.

I've yet to open it and i've sent an e-mail to the seller with pictures. Thank god I paid for insurance.

Insurance is for sissies. As far as I'm concerned the seller is responsible for getting the merchandise to me and if it doesn't it is his responsibility.

You wouldn't pay Sears extra to make sure your package arrived would you?

It was $2.45 on a $100 package, no biggie.

I've said it before....but you have downright horrible luck.

In fact you should just change your name to "Lucksucking Vortex of Doom".

😛

Given the fact that it was a kit, most likely everything survived. The individual components are quite durable with the only potentially fragile part being the nixie tubes, which are more durable than you think.

if you ship a box properly it will not turn out to be like that. it is the seller's fault.

I dunno, there is only so much you can do sometimes.

Nothing's going to keep a box safe if someone drops a fairly heavy object on it, unless it's reinforced with 2x4's on the inside.

I would if Sears had a stock of 1 and the item was already fairly underpriced.

gotta love those "we care" bags, except they neglect to include the "but not enough to pay for damages" fine print

Haha yea, I chuckled when I saw it 🙂

It says;

WE CARE

Dear Postal Customer:

We sincerely regret the damage to your mail during handling by the Postal Service. We hope this incident did not inconvenience you. We realize that you mail is important to you and that you have every right to expect it to be delivered in good condition.

Although every effort is made to prevent damage to the mail, occasionally this will occur because of the great volume handled and the rapid processing methods which must be employed to assure the most expeditions redistribution possible.

We hope you understand. We assure you that we are constantly striving to improve our processing methods in order that even a rare occurrence may be eliminated.

Please accept our apologies.

Sincerely,

Your Postmaster

wow reminds me of a hard drive shipment I got. The box had this HUGE dent on one corner, the drives were free inside the box to move lol. Survived though.

its the seller's fault if the parcel courier can't ship without damaging the parcel?

😕

Boxes are designed to be stuffed full, not left with empty space. If the box wasn't stuffed full with packing peanuts, crumpled paper, etc. than it is primarily the shippers fault. The post office's biggest fault is accepting the package that way.
It looks like that box had been shipped in before, and in reality most boxes are designed as single time use... you wouldn't believe the shit people try to ship stuff in...

well i'll be DAMNED! I opened it up and much to my surprise, almost EVERYTHING was perfect. He did a great job packaging them up, except for one poor nixie who lost its top 🙁

Hopefully he can just chuck another nixie in the mail for me.

Yep, I definitely got one of those 😛

Fortunately for me I got mine due to magazine that had the back cover torn off and they put it in one of those bags.

Same. I have never got a package with one of those covers. Just magazines.
