Destination tomorrow: Canada. Good drinks??

I live in Michigan near the Ontario CA border and since I am now 19, me and a few friends are headed there tomorrow to hit up some bars and party, legally too! Since I'll have the privledge to buy my own alcohol that night, I'd like to try out some new stuff, not the same old beer everytime! So what kinds of good beers are there, good mixed drinks??

Alexander Keith's is a good call as far as Canadian beer goes, same with Brick beer, I'm a fan of Waterloo Dark, since I'm more a dark beer type of guy... but seriously if you're going for beer, just about any Canadian beer will do ya well, although I'm not a fan of Molson Canadian.. much better Canadian beers are available.

Kokanee Gold and Ricards Red are what I usually drink for beer. The "mixed drinks" or you may like to call them highballs and cocktails are all pretty much the same with a few exceptions. Long Island Iced Tea is a favorite of mine and I know it's not popular all over the US (but may be where you live). A Caesar can be good too.. but it's gotta be a good one made with gin.

However;
you're expending way too much effort just for the sake of getting drunk in a public place
I second this.

where do you live in michigan? where do you plan on going to the bars at in windsor?? lots of places have specials on either beer or mixed drinks or both...

Northern. Going to Sault Ste. Marie actually, it's only about 3 hours from here.

Yes maybe too much effort, but it is my birthday, and one of the few if not only places I'll be going this summer since I'll be working the rest of the time.

a 3 hr drive just to get drunk legally.. waste of time lol

I hope you are staying the night there or have a designated driver to bring you back home

Well, let me be the first to say. "Welcome to Canada." Sault Ste. Marie is a shithole, but who cares, you'll have a great time. Don't listen to these drips in here.

As far as beers go, I would recommend avoiding the Canadian Domestic crap such as Blue, and Canadian. No flavour. Same goes for American brands like Budweiser and Coors. Instead, try Alexander Keith's Pale India Ale, Moosehead Lager, and if they're available, Sleeman Silvercreeek Lager and Cream Ale.

You can get all the same stuff you would in America, minus a few, but remember, our beer is stronger than yours.

Have fun, and happy birthday.

hmmm...I actually thought Molson Canadian was one of the better beers I've ever had. I have some in my fridge, and its not too easy to get in Sunnyvale! I'm not the much of a beer drinker these days so maybe thats why. Canadian seems to taste less like pee than other brands.

Domestic mainstream brands, whether Canadian or American, are designed to be unoffensive and readily palatable so that they appeal to a wide audience. Beer is an aquired taste and most casual drinkers prefer something that while obviously tasting like beer, doesn't taste too extraodinary.

I enjoy full-bodied beer with a noticable aftertaste, either fruity or bitter. My current favourite of the last four years has been Stella Artois, a Belgian lager. With all the choice out there, there's little excuse for not experimenting. You may have preferred the taste of Molson Canadian because, honestly, American beer is crap.

Depending how far away he his, not really. When I was 19-20, some friends and I would hit Windsor every weekend over the summer. Of course, we lived 20 minutes from the border, so it was no big deal. Back then (1999-2000) we'd also get pretty good exchange rates ($20 American would get you a little over $30 Canadian) so drinks would usually end up costing us less than they would even if we could get them in MI. I don't know what the rate is now, as I haven't been back in a few years and am too lazy to check it online.

The nightspots in MI don't consider you a person until you're 21, so we were rather limited in our options. It boiled down to cruising Woodward (which we did sometimes), going a little further and cruising Gratiot, going to Belle Isle, or hitting the lame teen dance club. No thanks. So we'd go to Canada and have a great time.

As far as the beers go, be careful if you get Molson XXX. That stuff will knock you down if you're not ready for it. That said, I'd always get at least one or two of those during the course of a typical night.

I'm doing the same thing in 2 weeks. Gonna hit up canada for a weekend with a bunch of friends to go eat/drink/party .
