i just read in an article that the junior high i went to has implemented a strict dress code. it dictates what you can wear, not what you cannot wear.

Dress Code Guidelines
Boys:
Khaki, black or navy blue pants or shorts

Girls:
Khaki, black or navy blue pants, shorts, Capri pants or skirts

Boys and Girls:
Long or short-sleeved Polo-style shirts
(knit shirt with a collar and buttons on front)
in khaki, white, orange or gray.

Sweatshirts and sweaters in the approved colors are also allowed.

Students are not allowed to wear blue jeans.
All shirts should not display insignias, logos or any written words.

Students are required to wear black or neutral
colored belts that fit at the student's natural waisteline.

ACK!
i was sooooo expressive in my dress at that age. polo shirts where definitely NOT part of my self-expression, but neither was anything obscene or logoistic(if you'll allow me that word).

cameras, semi-uniforms, people thinking everything is a sign you'll kill people, i would so be in jail if i was in public schools these days. long skirts were part of my wardrobe. in one english class every paper i wrote turned into why i should kill everyone in the room. i didn't mean i was going to kill everyone, i was just expressing my disdain for the lifeless/thoughtless blobs that occupied the room and my displeasure with wasting my time there.

sure, i was silly and immature, but you're supposed to be at that age!

someday i'll have a kid. i feel sorry for it. in what a cookie cutter, bleach white straightjacket world it will have to learn to breathe individual freedom.

We had a worse dress code where I went to school. Our Junior High basketball team had to wear a tie / etc before the game.

A lot of countries have strict dess codes for school and to be honest it's not that bad. I used to live in a country with school uniforms.

All you have to do is file for waiver and you can dress like a goth/punker/stoner/poser all you want.

Some people take it too far, and some students do the same. No jeans or T-shirts would of killed me in jr high and high school.

I would wear the required clothing, then made sure I wore a trenchcoat over it in appropriate weather. (when outside, of course)

Back in the day, my HS wouldn't allow anyone to wear two different colored shoe laces in the same pair of shoes. They said it was gang related.

Heh. Lame. Excessively lame. And what color is "khaki" exactly? It's my understanding that it's just a generic term for an earth tone - that could run a HUGE gauntlet ranging from red to green to gray to brown.

I actually partially agree with this, as it produces a professional work environment, but I assume this is a public school - that dress code is not exactly cheap, and VERY not easy to find (Go find me a polo shirt without a manufacturer's logo stiched onto the breast)

By the way, I'm on my school's watch-list for potential mass murderers. They keep their distance.

That's something to brag about on the internet.

Yeah, writing a paper on why you should kill everyone in the room is sure expressive!

We have tried ignoring such warning signs from people like you, but unfortunately a handful of dead children means such papers are indicative of a severely distressed kid.

You forgot the word "sometimes" in between 'are' and 'indicative'.

So, they essentially require a uniform. Try the traditional public school my youngest attends. Not only do they state the colors/styles of clothes but they require specific types (can't be a skirt with certain differences...can't have pockets that look like denim-style pockets, no shoes that blink, etc.). I don't mind it one bit, actually. Makes picking out clothes much easier and these uniform-style clothes LAST.

Also, I think the original poster needs to concern herself more with spelling and grammar than what she was able to wear when she attended that school! :p

judging by the fact that she's posting and not in jail, it's obvious she didn't pull a columbine

whatever, all teens go through that stage

Another thing...

Why is it that so many of these "expressive" kids trying to be "different" end up looking like all the others of the same mentality? What's different and expressive about choosing the aesthetic qualities of some faction whether it be hippy, gothic, etc.?

It's just clothes for crying out loud. If you feel you have to wear something that says "look at me, I'm different than you", than perhaps you are compensating for lack of intellectual diversity instead?

I remember seeing a video about school uniforms. I couldn't understand it though, because the narration was is German.

Adding "sometimes" along with indicative is superfluous; it's an *indicator*, not a guarantee.

That is retarded. Dress codes don't do anything. The big thing when I was in high school was the whole Marilyn Manson shirt thing... They suspended like 5 guys for wearing them. How gay is that? How is that offensive? Yet someone could wear a Barbara Streisand shirt and no one would care?!?!!

I am completely against anyone who implements dress codes.... they are totally wrong.

I'd never do it though, a waste of good ammunution, and why on earth would you land yourself dead or in prison just to kill a few dozen dim-witted fools

Actually they do. They reduce the pressure on kids to fit in. Since all kids are requried to wear the same clothing, kids won't be made fun of because they can't afford Abercrombie and Fitch stuff.

Typical of someone such as yourself: you have a superiority complex. You think that *everyone* besides yourself is somehow dim-witted. Everyone that actually has a handle on life is somehow a simpleton. A bit of a paradox, don't you think?
