500 lightly armed troops can't do jack. The International community...this includes the United States (just barely these days) really doesn't give a rats ass if these people slaughter each other. You will see a few sound bites on the evening news and in the end nothing will change.

AFRICA IS ON ITS OWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not surprising. When I read that the entire force will be 1500, it became clear that they wouldn't be able to achieve much. Sad but true.

They aren't there to stabilize the country. They are there to protect french citizens and interests.

Hasn't the world had enough lessons? You DO NOT interfere in civil war or all you end up doing is fighting both sides until you leave and then they keep killing each other. There has been a hundered examples in history and the result is always the same. You can't stop a civil war with troops unless you conquer and occupy the country with force and that doesn't even work. Why risk our boys lives to accomplish nothing?

Somalia was an Al-Queada cell sent in to cause trouble, damn good job on their part.

We have been active in the negotioans in Liberia, America's pet African country.

The Congo is a former French colony, like many of the nations in chaos there....
They were there a few motnhs ago trying to act as mediators, wound up getting both sides pissed at them. They have had firefights where they are being shot at by both forces at the same time, thank god we didn't listen to them.....

africa is an absolute mess right now. What they need is a good, iron-fisted, and determined dictator who actually respects the rule of law and puts the country above himself. Only when laws are respected will prosperity follow. With prosperity comes stability. Then democracy can come later.

this one yes, the many other operations they have run in Africa the last 20 years, no, it's easy to remember really, the US is the only one to ever ask the UN.

They are not doing well BTW....

The problem is that when people want to murder each other they will. The solution is for people to tire of killing one another. Unfortunately, they rarely do.
