Despite spate of new models, quality issues haunt Nissan

I think the quality of some of their new designs is lacking (Murano, Maxima (ecchhhh....), FX).

The quality issues are not failure of mechanical parts but rather low quality materials used to compose the interior.

I thought it was a failure of mechanical parts when I read the thread title.

I can live with below-average interior materials if I get above-average performance/style for the price.

Nissan is in a tough position.

They loose sales to people that would consider nothing other than Domestic.
They loose sales to the lemmings that consider Honda & Toyota as the gods gifts to the automobile industry.
Those two added up takes away like 75% of the market share.

That leaves Nissan, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Subaru, and the Germans & Koreans to pick up the table scraps.

Not a great position to be in.

I love most of their cars, but I buy based on value, not nameplate.

Well, the people buying honda and toyota may be "lemmings," but at least they're getting quality automobiles by doing so 🙂

Nothing against Nissan, though. I'd buy one of their current cars before anything out from honda or toyota at the moment.

Then again, STi >> all

which is why i love nissan. no other car manu (well now mazda does..so i love them too) offers their kind of fun-to-rive for that price. May not be right for everyone, but sure as hell is right for me.

Well, when it came down to my dad getting a new pickup, it was either the Toyota Tacoma Double Cab or the Nissan Frontier Crew Cab Long Bed. The Nissan had a nicer interior and about a $4,500 - $5,000 lower price tag comparitively equipped. Toyota's are nice, but it just wasn't worth the price difference this time (especially considering he'd be getting a smaller bed with the Tacoma).

Yeah, the only thing missing in Nissan's lineup is a nice interior. The last Nissan with a good interior were the previous gen. Maxima's and current Pathfinder's.
Heck, my 1995 Sentra has a better interior than today's Altima's 😕

What the heck is management thinking?
Use some of that profit and put it into quality materials! :|

If you think about it, a nice interior is one of the few things missing from their cars, and that's when buyers start looking at the other competitors.
If they could only realize that and change it, perhaps they would sell MORE cars.

a family friend bought an 03 I4 altima and it's been to the shop 3 times for the same coolant leak.

Nissan's new designs are great, but build quality is abysmal. It's like an anti-Toyota or something.

A car is still a mechanical thing, there are plenty of moving parts and things can/do go wrong, new and old.

Once and a while a factory will put out a lemon, and quality control/testing can only find so much.

It happens... doesn't mean the build quality is 'abysmal'.
