Heya guys,

I have one of the superb DMX6Fire cards from Terratec, which I've been using for pro audio work for some time now. I just upgraded my mb to the Epox 8RDA and suddenly all has gone wrong. When using the card I get either no sound with a lot of noise (rear ports and headphone out) or a horrible distorted signal from the line out ports on the breakout box.

I don't want to go into too much detail on the various fixes I've tried, but it is NOT a motherboard incompatibility problem - I've tested the card in an identical machine and it was fine. I'm sure it's some sort of grounding problem but I know very little about them - how to locate and how to fix.

Please - any advice on this would be very appreciated. I've a gig coming up in less than two weeks and I haven't finished preparing the audio files I need.

Yours,
IdahoB

Well, of course, if all else fails and your deadline is approaching you should if at all possible put this card in a box it will work in and use that. Other than saying that I can only point out some gotchas that could be involved:

OS configuration. Move the card to a different slot. Pursue your grounding problem theory. You can try posting in any of the soundcard newsgroups, for instance:

comp.sys.ibm.pc.soundcard.tech
comp.sys.ibm.pc.soundcard.misc

Soundcard heavyweights hang out there. Good luck!
