I think i might have touched an ide cable, and then now my primary and secondary hard drives cannot be detected, not even in the BIOS!!

Touching the cable wouldn't do anything.

Try putting the drives on the a different IDE controller and see what happens.

If nothing, you're pretty screwed. You always have the option of buying identical drives and swapping out the electronics, which would most likely work then.

But my money right now is either on PEBKAC or fried IDE controller.

step one --- breathe

step two --- make not to post in right forum next time.

step three --- kill power to machine

step four --- unplug power cable

step five --- recall all the things that you'd need to change in the bios

step six --- pull the cmos battery/cmos reset jumper.

step seven --- form an opinion on bunny rabbits for about 30 seconds.

step eight --- replace battery/jumper

step nine --- reconnect power cord and hard drives firmly

step ten --- boot into cmos.

Hey, I just created a 10 step program.

It may just gotten loose due to your touching, make sure they are firmly seated by pushing them on their edges from left to right. Both on motherboard and harddrive. Good luck.

Try the drives in a different system, one at a time.

Verify that the jumpers are on correctly?

I doubt it's broken just like that.

There is either something your not telling us, God hates you, or the drive is still alive. :p

no, it's exactly how i am telling you.....

i put it on my other systems, and the drives won't even detect...

and one of the drives won't even power up.....i put my ear to the drive and i can't hear it spin...that one is a Western Digital 80GB non-se drive...

do u guys think I could replace the IDE controller card on the hard drive??

agh!

Careful with that freezer idea... It could cause bad condensation when you take it out. That wouldn't be good.

You need to put it in a 'ziploc bag' or something that completely suts it off from the air. Any chance that the heads are stuck in the wrong postition because you power off when they were reading. Try tapping the HD in the centre fairly hard and then power on. May work. If not you could always spend Stupid amounts of money sending them here :D.

Try swapping the logic boards on the back of the HD's if all else fails.....

When you say you 'touched' the cables with the computer on, does that mean you unplugged them? I think you already know what happened if that is the case, cuz simply touching a cable won't do anything...PEBKAC LoL...I have that 'User Friendly.org' comic beside my desk (help desk) at work at all times.
