Heyas =)
I've got a buddy that I can't seem to help =(. He is a pretty hardcore gamer...in fact, he really does almost nothing else. He has been using the same isp and account for some time now and has it dialing automatically. It has worked flawlessly while he's been using it. He has a USRobotics 56k modem (not sure of the model) and a pretty nice system running win98se.
So anyway, one day he goes to start his dial-up and it connects, but will not verify his password. Undaunted, he walks upstairs to see if the computer in another room has the same problem. It does not. The same account, password and connection all work fine on the machine on the same line that he uses.
As the computer geek of our circle of friends (and the person who helped him build his machine) he asked me for help. I told him to check the phone cable to the wall, reinstall the driver, check the caps lock (even though it was dialing auto with password saved), etc. All of this he tried to no avail. To be honest I'm stumped and just shy of rebuilding from a fresh windows install.
My suspicion is that it could be a problem with the modem. Ever hear of a problem like that? I'm really at a loss. If you have any idea what could be causing such a problem to occur, or suggestions for making it work, I would be very appreciative =).
Thanks in advance...
