Desktop to Laptop advice needed

I have always been an avid desktop advocate, but due to my job, I will be traveling much more than I have been previously... So having a computer I would only be able to use when I'm at home (maybe 1 week a month) is not an attractive option

My current desktop rig is a intel core2quad 6600, 12gigs of ddr2 ram, with a Eva gtx 275 video card. With 2 7200rpm hard drive (too lazy to upgrade to faster ssds)

The things I want/need is a 3rd gen i7 and a Keplar based nvidia card. Also a backlit keyboard and 1920x1080 screen... The games I currently play are skyrim, wow, d3, sc2, battlefield3 as well as others but those are the main ones

I've been wanting to wait for the 680m but was wondering if the 660m would be a big enough upgrade from my current rig to warrant me not caring to wait

Price range is right around $2000 with a bit of wiggle room and I will buying it in The US

Asus g75 series and sager np9170 are the 2 big models I've been looking at... Recently bought my gf an asus g53 and it's been an amazing upgrade from her old dell xps.

I am also an intel/nvidia fanboy... But I am open to anything on the whole.

Planning on buying laptop within a month or so

17" is what I ideally want, but 15" would be fine as well

I'm open to more suggestions, as well as any advice

Oh yeah, long time forum crawler, first time post 🙂 thanks ahead of time for any help

Check out Clevo P170EM, configurable to your liking

17" full HD
i7-3610QM (2.3 - 3.3GHz)
AMD 7970M 2GB (downclocked desktop 7870)
2x4GB RAM
Samsung 830 256GB SSD or pick a HDD

= $2100 with the SSD, <$2000 with a HDD

Isn't that clevo the exact same thing as the sager 9170?

Anyone think it would be worth it to wait for the release of the 680m so I can see how it performs?

Waiting will always get you more bang for you buck, so I suppose it depends on how immediate your need is.

Ideally I want it ordered by middle of June by the latest.... Figured that would give nvidia 680m some time to be tested before deciding

Compared to the gtx 275, what is speed difference of the 660m, 670m, and 675m ?

I have an Asus G53, and can recommand it. Its big, heavy, clumsy, and ugly, but on the other hand sturdy, has great keyboard and touchpad, and keeps quiet even when running stuff like Mass Effect 3 and Skyrim.

2 HDD bays and 4 RAM slots are a nice bonus too.

Like I said, my gf has the g53 and it has been nothing but awesome for her... Fast, quiet, well but etc... Only issue she has is that the power cord is on the side instead of the back (blocking her mouse movement she says)

Any word if the Asus gXX series will get the 680m when it is finally released in the beginning of June?

@lehtv thanks for posting those scores... They are actually disturbing to me though... Lol I'll get a speed drop if I deciede to go with the 660m... I honestly didnt realize the gtx 275 would still be beating mid range cards (even mobile ones) 3 generations later :/
