Desktop that can run TF2 smoothly

I posted a different thread about getting a desktop $400-$500 , and was gonna build one. My bro thinks I would mess something up (I think I would too 😀) so I need a suggestion for a Desktop in the range of $400-$500. Or a little bit higher than 500 (like 550 or something)

And no computers that are used or have integrated graphics.

the HD 2000 IGP on the i3 2100 can do TF2 med settings on 1680x1050... if you can get a chip that has HD3000, even better

you can definitely get a i3 build under $450, especially if you're near a microcenter or have your own OS/existing parts

though i might look at AMD

I know TF2 can run smoothly on a 8600GTS and an athlon 64-X2 2.7GHz. Anything that can meet those specs will do you just fine. Replace the 8600GTS with an HD 4670, and you'll also be just fine. I know all this firsthand.

Chances are you can find something used for under $200. If there is no reason to go with the latest hardware, then dont!

According to passmark, an AMD quad core llano rips an 8600GTS to shreds. So any old llano A8 should work for you. I would avoid the A6 or A4 though... I'm just not sure about HD3000....

the AMD 4250 is == intel HD 2000 << llano

what resolution are you playing at?

do you want TF2 to run on smoothly on low settings? medium? high?

AMD A8 llano PC

would you be fine with buying a computer and adding your own dedicated GPU?
if yes, find a computer with a core i3, not small form factor case (important for standard sized PSU & GPU compatibility), and decent PSU, then drop in a decent GPU depending on resolution

I'd recommend getting a refurb pre-built from the Lenovo or Dell outlets. Head to slickdeals.net and just keep an eye out for sub $250 desktops that come with a Windows 7 license. If you're really patient you can score a desktop for around $150 which is generally worth it for the starting point and Windows license alone. Then you just need to add a few pieces to make it TF2 ready, and there are plenty of members here that can help you out with that.

On ebay I am eyeballing a Dell Optiplex 755 SFF Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66GHz 4GB RAM 250GB HDD ATI Radeon 2400 for $200 shipped.

Find a low profile 28nm video card and slap it in there and I got a nice sub $300 gaming system. Unfortunately I cant find a low profile 28 nm card. shrug. lol

Don't listen to your bro it's pretty damn hard to mess up putting together a basic PC.
