Desktop screenshots?

I admit that part of the reason I use Linux is for the, in my opinion, highly stylish ways in which we customize our Linux desktops. Anyone wanna throw their desktop screenshots up? I just reformatted recently and am still deciding how I want to customize, here's where I sit now tho.

I haven't gotten the customize bug yet, so I only moved and changed a bit in gnome. I mostly used transparency to make it show the wallpaper cause I love the texture on it.

I eventually want to add a yz bar like widget to get rid of some of the icons. If anyone have any suggestions on where to get one, please let me know.

A little launcher like Mac's have? Try AWN (Avant Window Navigator).

Here's my first desktop, as you can see via the thumbnails at the bottom I currently have 8 desktops.

Be aware though that even though I scaled it down ~75% from 1680x1050 but it's still ~700K and since I'm hosting that myself it'll be slow loading, I can only do ~40KB/s up.

I still can't manage to spread my work across multiple desktops. It's just...too much work to go out of my way to do so.

I hit Alt+F# to switch to # desktop instead of Alt+Tab to switch windows. It's actually less work because I don't have to worry about windows overlapping, minimizing, etc.

Definitely. I didn't use multiple desktops right away when I first migrating to Linux either, but after getting used to it things are actually quite a bit easier. With beryl, I just use the default ctl+alt+arrow key to switch desktop cube faces and like Nothinman said, it saves a lot of time.

I plan on giving Compiz a try once the compiz-fusion packages hit sid but one thing I always miss when switching to another WM is the E16 desktop mini-windows. They're awesome because they're live updated thumbnails and I can even manipulate the windows in them, i.e. I can drag a window from desktop 0 to desktop 3 while on desktop 2 by dragging the window thumbnail between the mini-windows.

Yeah. That's pretty neat functionality. I don't even have thumbnails of my other cube faces to see what's going on. This is something I'd like to rectify.

I'd post mine, but it's currently bone-stock GNOME. I might get some better icons, though.

I have a 1ghz Pentium-M, usually clocked down to 600mhz, so I can't exactly afford a lot of window-dressing.

I wish I knew how to customize Linux at all. Running Ubuntu Feisty fresh install and I can't figure out how to make anything look/work better. I can't even get video card drivers to install.

If you're using that Nvidia card in you sig then just go to restricted drivers and enable the nvidia drivers. I don't have Ubuntu on right now but it's under Administration if I remember right.

That's my desktop. I'm running Ubuntu on my laptop with integrated ATI graphics.
