desktop screenshot program?

what program should I use to capture screenshots of my (computer) desktop? here's an example of what I'm talking about... (just the first picture of the desktop on the monitor)

... or in M$ Word, or my preferred way, in Excel (doesn't resize the screenshot--- I use fairly high resolution on 2 monitors, and that doesn't fit well in a Word page)

ps-- press "alt+prt scr" and paste wherever if you just want the active window.

Uh - why wouldn't you paste into a graphics program? ie GIMP, PS, MSPaint.

no need for other programs such as hypersnap or whatever just do what yakuza said...

it even works on games press "PrintScreen" pause the game "Alt-Tab" open paint paste it ,save, continue...
i prefer to pause the programs coz sometimes some progs just clear the clipboard contents...

thanks for the info... I had no idea Windows allowed the "Print Screen" keyboard button to take a snapshot of my desktop. very simple.
