I have a 24" Dell LCD and it is great...it is the low end one and only cost me $200 and change brand new. Sure it's not the top of the line, but I do quite a bit of gaming and it has been glorious compared to my old 22" Samsung LCD.

If you can actually see pixels 2 feet away on a 27 inch LCD monitor @ 1080P resolution, you should apply for X-men. For productivity a 30 inch 2560x1600 is far superior to a 42 inch 1080P LCD. However, try playing a game or watching a movie. A 42 inch plasma demolishes a 30 inch LCD for movies and games.

I have asked this question earlier... but here it goes again: do any of you actually do some serious work at home to warrant superior productivity performance? Maybe some photo editing for some of you, but not much outside of that I bet. You may well be one of few exceptions, but I thought most people here are gamers first and foremost. Does it really matter if text is a weeny bit clearer? I mean I for one do some ppt editing and wordprocessing on my tv just fine.

Not really arguing with you RS, just a generic question to all of you :)

I'm still using a Dell 20.6 in 4x3 ultrasharp 1600x1200 from about 10 years ago. It has been an awesome monitor and even though it was about 800.00 back then, I don't regret spending the money at all. Buy quality and you won't regret it.

err i think you are underestimating vision. 2 feet is rather close to something as big as 27". its pretty much right in your face, so seeing how coarse a 1080p res on such a monitor is is hardly super human. after all 30" 4mp monitors are used at about 2 feet away as well.

My eyes suck and get tired from reading text on a 24" without jacking up the dpi, setting text to "large" or "extra large" AND bypassing font sizes through the Accessibility tool for Explorer. All my web pages look like ass, but hey, my eyes are comfortable, and once in a while, I turn regular font sizes back on if the web page is unusable.

Here it is again, Someone who has never used a 30" is dissin' , not worth it, price is too high, overkill,,

No one ever looked back from a 30" 25x16, If you have the money Go for it, DON"T kid urself with the 2x24" BS, Dual monitor might be "ehh" for productivity, but 30" is top notch for everything else.:sneaky:

A 30" is over $1,000... It's a bit too much for me. :/

I've never understood why people cheap out on a monitor or case. Those two items often last multiple builds. Sometimes it's the same people spend $300-$500 on a GPU that lasts for a year or so.

Personally I thought going from a cheap 19" Dell lcd to the (in)famous SOYO 24" was a fantastic upgrade; until I got a couple 3007s.

I'm with you there. I'd rather overspend on a top-end monitor than a top-end video card. The monitor I have now cost $550 when I bought it 4 years ago (21") and will likely last me a few more years.

The next monitor I get will probably be a 24" 19x12 and I'll spend good money on it since it will last me the next 5-6 years.

Yup. I bought my Apple Cinema 23" for $2k back 5.5 years ago. Still going strong and better than these TN panel LCDs. A monitor is something you look at everytime you use the computer. Why settle for a crappy monitor?

for gaming IMO 22" is the limit, I have a 24" and it requires too much eye movement to scan the whole thing. I did MUCH better in CS on my 22" but that was a CRT and 4:3. I would never game on anything above 24" period. I am going to go back down to 22" as soon as I find one I like.

How well does that 9800GT in your sig drive that 28"? How much eye candy can you turn on with it? I would think you would have to keep the game settings at medium.

Surprisingly well. Although I am considering replacing the 9800gt with an ATI 5850 soon. The main game I'm interested in right now is BFBC2. So far I've only played the Beta, which unfortunately is stuck on medium settings so I will have to wait for the full version to try out the higher graphical settings. The beta averaged around 40fps so it's not too bad. I've seen 55fps and as low as 20 in heavy battles with AA and HBAO off, so the 5850 is looking likely at this point as I would like to turn the settings on high when I get the final game soon.

I've had a Dell Ultrasharp U2410 Rev A01 for about a month now.
The improvement in picture quality from a Samsung TN panel is fairly noticeable.HD movies look awesome I have to say.
You can sit quite a bit to one side and still watch a movie reasonably well.
After a 20" widescreen the U2410 feels nicely bigger and almost instantly makes your old panel look tiny.
I like the Display Port setup also_One easy cable from the back of the HD 5850 card to the monitor and it has a really good stand arrangement.
All the switch gear and controls have a quality feel about them so you feel a little justified that they cost $700 or so.
Game mode is good and makes the mouse very crisp in game...its a must have feature for an IPS panel I think.
Everyone says "Buy a good monitor, its worth it"
So far,I'd have to agree.

I don't do any photo editing at home but I build extensive financial models in excel (100 worksheets+) for which a 30 inch would definitely help. However, since I also watch movies and play games, I prefer a larger monitor at this time. If my job involved photo editing, then yes I'd get 2x30s :).

That's good to know. I was planning on upgrading to a 24" LCD soon and was trying to decide what video card to get with it. I guess I'll have to just get the new LCD and see how well my current 4830 works with it. If it can keep up then I can keep it and save the cash.
