Not sure where to begin troubleshooting this. I have a cablemodem connection to my computer, use a D-Link wireless router for the rest of the house (three other computers). About two or three times a day, by desktop internet connection crashes (just says "operation times out") but the internet connection to the house is fine as the other three computers are still online.
Whattup?

1) you might try scanning it with some up-to-date antivirus and antispyware programs. Try the Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta and the Webroot Spysweeper 30-day free trial, and make sure to have WinSockFix on hand as well: links on this page You might also try the TrendMicro Housecall online virus scan there as a "second opinion" in addition to whatever antivirus software you have now.

2) so your computer's wired to the router, is that right?

Thanks. I will try MS Antispy and WinSockFix. and Yes, I double checked as I did not remember, Cable modem goes into WAN port of router and my computer is hardwired into LAN1. A shared printer is hardwired into LAN2 then the laptops connect wirelessly.

Sometimes spyware/adware gets itself into a "middleman" position and that is my :light: for suggesting the spyware scans. Could be the wrong idea, but it never hurts to check :)

Besides the TrendMicro Housecall, another way you can get a second opinion on the virus question is described in this text file here: right-click this and save it. That scanner is a one-shot utility, so you don't need to uninstall your regular antivirus to use it.
