Desktop hardwired... preventing wireless connections?

I just recently built a new desktop which is now hard wired to my netgear wndr3300 wireless router. If the desktop is on (eg. not off or in sleep mode), I can connect any other of my devices to the wireless signal. However, when the desktop is on, I can attempt to connect to the wireless network as I can see its SSID, but I repeatedly get a message that I failed to connect, or that my passkey is invalid. Has anyone ever dealt with this or know how to fix it.

System specs:
Intel 15-760 OC to 3.6Ghz
4GB Mushkin Enhanced Redline
2 x intel X25 40GB SSD
1 x seagate barracuda 1TB HDD
EVGA nvidia 460GTX superclocked
ASUS 24x DVD burner
ASUS 8x Blu ray drive
ASUS ROG Maximus III Gene mobo
Coolermaster 690 nvidia edition
Corsair 750 watt TX psu
Netgear WNDR3300 dual band wireless router

devices connecting in wifi:
2 iphone4
1 macbook pro
1 Dell POS

Please let me know how to fix this, or the right path to start looking on.

You've got typos in there. You can, or can not connect when its on?

If you can't connect when the desktop is on, I'd be curious how close the desktop is to the router and if the desktop has a WiFi or Bluetooth card in it. Looking for something that could cause interference...

Check a few things:
1. You didnt put your wireless card/usb device in the computer and run both wireless, and wired connections
2. Make sure that you dont have any ip address conflicts
3. Make sure that the desktop is plugged in correctly to the switch.
4. Break it down, leave the desktop off, and bring up your wireless and make sure that everything works

The desktop is hardwired to the router.

When the desktop is in sleep mode or off, I can connect to my wireless network fine. It is only when the desktop is up and running that I have this problem. I am speaking more about connecting other devices to the network, not my desktop.

Check to make sure the desktop machine is getting its IP address from the router rather than having a static IP address.

Does the desktop machine have any kind of wireless device in it? Does it have Bluetooth?

When the desktop machine is on does the Internet access on it work OK? Can you get into the router setup while the desktop is on?

What IP address is the desktop getting when it is connected to the router? Is it a 192.168.x.x. address, or a public address from the ISP? This will tell us whether the router is acting as a router or just as a switch (which could be causing the problem).
