Long story short, my desktop fell off my desk onto a hard surface. Wasnt powered on or even plugged in at the time. Now, wont turn on.

Whats the best troubleshooting procedure? Power supply first?

remove power cord from power supply.

unplug & re-seat connectors (including memory modules) + doing visual inspection while doing connectors. sometimes that's all that' wrong after a fall, connectors get un-plugged. happened to my phone/fax machine.

re-install power cord & power up, see what happens.

All of the above, plus pay particular attention to the CPU and cooler assembly. It has a pretty big mass, and should be compl;etely removed and inspected. Same for the CPU.

ok here's an update. bought a new powersupply, 430w. Put it in, reconnected all the wires and I now have power.

Problem now is when I turn it on, the case fan goes a hundred miles an hour for about 5-10 seconds then the computer shuts down. I tried adjusting the switch in the PSU from 115 but then the power light blinks yellow and green and seems like it doesnt have enough juice to start.

Any thoughts?

**Update**

Ok I got the unit to stay on, heatsink was off a little. Now it makes a series of beeps about 4-6 times, then just sits. Nothing on the monitor. Its a Dell XPS 420

**Update**

Booting now. Loose memory module. Big Sighhhhhh
