Desktop Experts - Can I force application windows to maximize in smaller size?

I've been messing around to make my desktop a bit fancier so today I was experimenting with Y'z Dock.

My plan is to get rid of the QuickLaunch bar and move the application shortcuts to a Dock at the top.

Now things get quite annoying because the dock overlaps on top of the application windows, so I was wondering if I could force Windows to maximize application windows in a way like the MacOS does. Can I somehow tell Windows to maximize but leave a few pixels of margin at the top?

I just dock the quicklaunch bar at the top of the screen and select always on top, which seems to do the job.

just dock an empty bar at the top, the same size as your Y'z dock bar, it sould cover it up
