I haven't kept up with the recent gadgets/technology so I was hoping you techies can help me. I'm looking for some type of wireless usb device that can be plugged into a desktop to connect a laptop to the web/email (wireless). Any help and links would be great. Thanks

You can install a USB on the Desktop and connect with a Wireless Card on another computer in Ad-Hoc Mode. Once the connetion is established you have to configure ICS on the desktop to provide Routing.

If you want more options you have to disclose your Internet connection and Network devices topology.

???

You would connect the wireless device to your desktop (which we assume is connected to the internet via dialup\broadband) this would allow your laptop to talk to your desktop. After they are talking you can share the connection on the desktop with the laptop.

Given the quote you can't just take this device anywhere and connect if thats what you are thinking. You need a cellular modem or wireless broadband card for that. If thats what you mean.

Sorry for the confusion. I meant to work or another home w/o wireless. I realize this needs to be connected to a desktop with a connection and settings need to be made on both sides. :)

Any connection like this would need installation of drivers on the Host computer and establishing Routing configuration.

I.e. it is Not practical for other locations since you can end up compromising some one else and Work systems.
