Desktop background picture not filling the 2nd screen Windows 7

I have a 2 monitor setup, on the left a 1280x1024 and on the right a 1920x1080. As you can see in the screenshot, the background picture is not filling the 2nd screen and while this is not an issue, it is annoying when you try to place the windows on the edges. The monitors are separated by the red line, and the left monitor goes up until the green filled space.
The only issue my setup has, is that the cables from the graphics card should have been reversed as I connected the second monitor recently on the second DVI port and switched it to the primary monitor; also this monitor only has a VGA port so I am using a DVI to VGA adapter. This information in case this is the cause of the issue. I will switch them sometime in the future.

Right click any empty desktop space > Personalize > click "Desktop Background" down the bottom, change Picture Position to Fill instead of Center.

Thanks for replying. Unfortunately the picture position is on "Fill".

There are no individual monitor settings. It is one setting for both monitors. And it is the system in my sig.

A compromise approach would be to copy the wallpaper and crop it to 1280x1024, then have it fill the wide-screen. The Windows logo might end up a bit large though.

Funny, I always see that stupid "Monitor 2" setting even when I only have 1.

Maybe you need to install some extra driver to get the second one to show up?

The problem, as pointed out by ninaholic37, is that " There are no individual monitor settings. It is one setting for both monitors." You should be seeing a display similar to what is in ninaholic37's pic.

Can you show us what you have on your "Screen resolution" page?

Just get "John's Background Switcher" and be done with it. It's a great little background program that does one thing, and it does it very well. It makes it VERY easy to have different pictures on each monitor, from multiple local and online sources. It's also free and the developer is responsive.

You can thank me later!

I lived with that discrepancy such as described by the OP for a couple years on my sig-rig. the desktop LCD 4:3 has resolution 1680x1050; the HDTV "second monitor" is 1920x1080 -- mostly exclusive-use for Win Media Center. And as others said, the problem disappears when I replace the old LCD monitor with an HD 16:9.

I'm actually a bit surprised that someone else had a configuration that would show this problem, and post it in a thread.

I am not sure if I can try the solutions posted as I changed the OS in the last 2 days. This installation was behaving bad since November and got worse the last few weeks. I am actually glad to be back on the SSD now. I guess I will thank you later for the program Binky and thanks for your interest.

I had it for a week or two (since I connected the second monitor) and it was difficult to place windows on the edges.

1680x1050 is 16:10.
