Desktop artifact after new pc setup

I setup a new pc last night with core i7, asus sabertooth motherboard and the gtx 470. After installing the latest nvidia whql drivers, I am getting shimmering artifacts like tiny blinking pixels all across the desktop. If i uninstall the driver and set it to vga, it goes away. What is wrong? I had this card in my old core2duo pc before the upgrade, and it had worked fine. Did I kill my card in some way when setting it up?

never mind a clean install of drivers fixed it.
