Trying to choose between the Deskstar 80gig 120gxp with 2mg cache or the new WD special edition 80gig drive with the 8meg cache.

Anyone know which one is better?

Thanks,

bgmartin,

I would get the WD. I've seen a couple of different reviews in which the performance of both drives is better than most competing drives. (If I remember correctly, the IBM is better at some things, the WD at others.) However, due to the extremely high failure rate of the 75 GXP drives and many reported problems with the 60 GXP, I would avoid IBM. I currently have two 75GXPs and I've all ready RMAed one.

I have the 120 gig version of the 8 meg wd and it's hecka fast. Love it. I also have two maxtor 740 7200 rpm with liquid bearings. Those are really nice too.
