Make a collage out of pictures? I've seen a few sites where there are a few pictures that blend into each other, in a sort of continuum. For a more tangible analogy, think of the crossfading of audio tracks.

Is this possible in Adobe Photoshop?
 
yes, it's possible in Photoshop. If you have LE, I'm not sure that it's possible (let me know how, if you find out), but I'm know it's possible in the full version.
 
I too am a photoshop newbie. I would suggest hitting the local bookstore, grabbing a caffinated drink, and read up on some of the cool tricks!
