How would you do it better than it's done today?

Off the cuff, I'd
(A) put a max spending cap on campaigning,
(B) restrict the candidates from mentioning each other, and
(C) require a single website to contain statements from all candidates, written by the candidates, on a series of relevant issues selected by a panel.
(D) I'd also require parties to disband and reform into multiple smaller parties once they hit a certain size/value point to prevent people in general from always voting party line because the party has the cash to publicize.

Oh, feel free to tell me why my ideas are bad ones, if you want. I haven't thought them through thoroughly yet.

a government body to review and approve all campaign ads with strict standards.

a real debate with follow up questions. real-time non-partisan fact checkers to provide info to moderator so any candidate would get a good whooping if they lied or misled.

set number of minimum debates for both P/VP.

What kinds of standards for campaign ads?

well, the specifics of it would be up to the gov body to decide, but the gist would be to remain as factual as possible.

a non-partisan body would be set up. they would adhere to their guidelines and they must decide whether the ad passes or not. some of the disqualifying crieterias would be:

1. Facts taken out of context or otherwise misleading
2. Smear ads with no actual facts
3. More scrutiny towards whatever plans the candidate is promoting

another option is for the government itself to run factual ads only. the candidates would submit their written answers or points they'd like to address. and an independent body could run non-partisan ads that compare the two candidates at the same time. that way, we as voters, can compare and choose our candidate based on undistorted truths.

i'd probably get rid of primaries and have everyone rank all candidates in a similar manner to the top 25 football polls.
