Desensitized to Saving Private Ryan?

The first time I saw this movie I was bowled over. I could not watch the beach scene without almost gagging. I saw it a few times after and was still shocked by the content. Now after Band of Brothers and countless FPS games like Wolfenstein it seems the movie does not provoke the same feelings as it once did. Has anyone else experienced this?

I actually didn't have the emotional response people did when they watched the beach scene. Yeah it was gory, but i thought it was great too. Maybe it's because i didn't see it on the big screen.

Band of Brothers was GREAT though.

I can't say I have ever had to look away because of that movie. Am I desensitized? I don't know. I didn't cry on September 11th, and I didn't cry watching Saving Private Ryan.

Did anyone see Saving Private Ryan on broadcast TV a couple of weeks ago? They played the whole thing uncut and unedited! I was kind of shocked that they would allow the F-word to be used on TV. I think it was on ABC.

Probably not until the Summer. They always wait a while before putting the shows on DVD. Sopranos Season 2 is just coming out now.

I really have to say, that Band of Brothers is the best thing that i've ever watched on TV. I taped all the episodes, and watched it multiple times. I even watched the documentary on it a few times.

It won't be out for awhile, so if you really want to see it, and you're on a fast connection, download it off Morpheus, irc, or usenet.

well so my parents are immigrants, and they heard it was a good movie, so they rented it. little did they know

i don't remember too much about it... aside from hannibal's mask and that woman in hole.

I wasn't as shocked by the gore than by the reality of it all. I mean I grew up on splatter flicks so guts and gibs do not phase me. When you see even an ungory shot, like when the soldiers land the boat and instantly get mowed down, it really strikes a deep chord.

So when I say "desensitized" I mean more by the harsh reality, rather than gore.

<shrugs> I wasn't that shocked the first time. When you grew up watching Chow Yun Fat kill 500 people with ridiculous blood and grenades and double pistols in John Woo films (I was watching those when I was like...5. I'm Chinese so Chow Yun Fat was the action star of the time.)

I loved Saving Private Ryan though. Ranks at the or near the top of my list.

im desensitized when it comes to humans being killed. i dont even care because its portrayed so much in the movies. people are mowed down left and right, and now especially with GTA3 ive killed countless numbers of people! :)

but if a dog or some cute animal is killed i get upset.

Gore doesn't shock me. It's the fact that people are dying (or were dying in the exact same way when it happened back in 1944).

Folks, on that day, on that beach alone, over 2000 men gave their lives so you could be free. It doesn't matter if you're American, or European, they gave their lives for your freedom. They ran into machine guns, mortars, and artillery to secure freedom for all of us. That alone is enough to move me.
