wake up, go downstairs, power on laptop, get kids fed & brushed and walk them to bus stop, return home, work at various capacities and eat lunch (usually from fridge)... till 330 when I get them from the bus. At some point I brush my teeth too.

Know what's funny? I nef'd more when I had an office to go into - pre-2005.

wake up
feed the cat, give him fresh water, and clean the litter box
do the needful in the bathroom, get dressed, leave the house
drive to the train station
take the train to my office building
go to the kitchen, put my lunch in the fridge, and make myself a cup of coffee
spend the rest of the day sitting at my desk, surfing the net and responding to phone calls/IM's as needed
reverse commute home, cook dinner, play video games or watch tv with the BF, and usually go to bed by 11 pm.

Sounds like the majority of us don't have much to do at work.

I am busy from time to time, but not often

Been working from home a lot lately:

0530: gym
0700: come home, eat breakfast, drink protein, drink coffee
0730: logon and check emails
0731: commence tons of people IMing me for various issues/projects/etc
1200: lunch...maybe
1600-1700: finish out the day and log off

Each window is peppered with heavy amounts of coffee.

My work volume is so sporadic I can't even begin to describe a typical day. Some days/weeks there isn't enough time in the day to handle the work load. Other days/weeks it's a massive nef fest here. Right now I'm between projects so there isn't a lot of build or testing to do. My pager isn't going off non-stop for production issues. So things are fairly quiet.

But tomorrow I could lose a server or have a database crash and I'll have 50 tickets to work.

Never know.

But my general day is this:

Up at 5:30
Shower and dress by 5:45
Get 7 year old up and out of bed at 5:50
Make a pot of coffee for me and wife at 5:55
Get breakfast started for everyone by 6:00
Start eating at 6:15
Finish eating and tidy up at 6:30
Get my 3 year old out of bed at 6:35
Get everyone into the car at 6:45
Drive to bus stop and walk my daughter to bus at 6:52
Drive to daycare and drop off my son at 7:02
Pull into ramp at work at 7:15
Walk to my office and ass in seat at 7:25
.......do work stuff
Usually leave at 5:00 or whenever I can drag my wife out of her office
Scream and curse at traffic until I can get to my daughters school at 5:20
Drive to daycare and pick up son at 5:30
Get home around 5:50PM
Start making dinner

I've been on auto-pilot since I started job hunting.

not that I'm ignoring work -- I take care of my daily maintenance/monitoring tasks and if someone calls me or IM's me with a request, I'll absolutely take care of it promptly -- but I'm not looking for work to do and generally have been ignoring the ticket queue unless it's a Sev 1 case.

Its feast or famine for me.

I have days where I am running around like a chicken with my head cut off but I also have weeks where I swear all I do is fill a seat. I'd rather be busy though, so I find stuff to do.

1. Decide if I want to work that day.

2. Work 3-4 hours in the morning. Collect $600-$800 for my efforts.

3. Eat lunch, go home and take a nap.

4. Decide if I want to work some more.

5. Work 3-5 hours at night. Collect $600-$1000 for my efforts.

6. Sleep.

7. Repeat step 1.

This goes on seven days a week for me. :(
