Describe your network setup

Road Runner cable --> Netgear RP114 router + 4 port switch --> main rig, file server, eMac. Planning on expanding soon, another PC and an hp print server for my printer, I have a D-Link FS108 switch ready to plug in and expand

i put my switch BEFORE the router and my VOIP get's it's own Comcast External IP address. yes, i'm special.

i figure it will be less down time as the router can go down but my VOIP would still work.

Makes sense. I don't know if I could get a second IP from my ISP, but I've got enough UPS' in the computer room to give me a while on the phone. And I got a cellphone.

i'm sure your question is not serious, a joke of some kind, but yes, there is Comcast High Speed internet access and Comcast Professional.

Comcast Pro gives you additional bandwidth 512 kb/s up 5 mb/s down and 4 IP address with TTL of 180 days (6 months, pretty much static).

I had a router but i tried to do a firmware upgrade and fried it.

Wireless broadband 802.11B (500/500) into D-Link 713P. Wired feeds to two desktop computers and one replayTV server. Wireless goes to two Linksys WET11 wireless bridges. One connects to ReplayTV/XBox/MP3 server through a D link 10/100 switch, other to my Playstation2 and second ReplayTV with a netgear 10/100 switch. Wireless is also used to connect my laptop to the network.

Also there is a standard 56K modem connected to Router for backup line.

Because we ran out of wired ports available on the router or wireless bridge......so we needed to add a switch.
