Descent3 jumpy on Win2K... other games run fine?

Let me start by saying that I did not have this problem in Win98/ME. However, in Win2000, Descent3 will suddenly jump way ahead skipping several frames. Its like I warped in one blink of an eye. Otherwise its very smooth but when it happens I usually end-up smack into a wall or way off course. Happens both with OpenGL and DirectX. Also tried DirectX 8.0 and the Win2K Compatibility Updates. Here are my system specs...

Descent3 (1.4 patch)

I'm using Nvidia's 6.31 Detonator3 drivers with VIA's 4in1 425(1)a drivers and also Creative's Live!Ware 3.0 driver for Windows 2000. The video card runs at 4x AGP, fast writes and side band addressing enabled. I use a good 300 watt Antec power supply and the system is very stable.
