I think he actually believes the masks are unnecessary and an insult to truth and intelligence, that those students were falling for a stupid theater game. He is just exhibiting the phenomenon of ego certainty that is the source of all evil, the consequence of ego arrogance coupled with Dunnig-Kruger effect in my opinion. This was a spontaneous and unpremeditated act that required no strategic planning. He was just being himself without any real plan, forethought or intention, in my opinion. The problem, though, is that the potential was there that those students trained all their life to respect authority did not reply, Sorry, Sir, but I will wear my mask rather than risk increasing my risk your personal opinion winding up killing me. Your opinion isn’t worth me risking increasing the probability I could catch a deadly disease and you are an asshole for asking me to.

What a dick! .... This is not a leader. This is a bully. A petulant child. It was intimidation and meant to embarrass. This needs to be campaign commercial footage when he runs for President. I guess the pressure on his income from the Russian sanctions is getting to him. He refuses calls to divest 300 million in Russian domicile investments from Florida. From the governor of a state that gets 33% of its budget from the Federal government.

Good to see only a couple of kids actually took them off.

You damn kids with your MASKS! You’re ruining my photo op!.

Does he know if any of those kids has an immune system disorder or someone in those children's household has an immune disorder and is following their doctor's orders to wear a mask? Would he give a fuck if they did?. If I was a parent of one of those kids I'd tell him to fuck right off!

Yeah it's obvious he doesn't believe masks work. I'm very pro-mask myself, but to some degree there is an element of hygiene theater. Until fairly recently, people were wearing relatively low-grade masks (cloth) and then anti-maskers would point to certain studies showing these are not very effective in isolation. Universal masking works extremely well, when everyone is wearing a well-fitting multi-layer mask. There is a small benefit to an individual wearer, but not enough to blunt community transmission when most people won't wear a good mask properly, if at all. (As we know, masking has been a very regional thing due to partisan politics.)

To be fair, DeathSantis did quickly mutter under his breath "wear them if you want," but adamantly complaining that they don't work. Most of those students did take their masks off.

Well, in DeSantis' case, I'd suggest if/when he needs surgery, he demand the surgeons and OR staff not wear masks or gloves. That'll show them...as he gets horrid staph infections.

(Hint: masks work)

An insult to truth and intelligence are all the laws banning CRT in public schools.
