DeSantis claims our rights come from God not government. Is that correct?

Do our rights come from God or man as part of the elected government?

For those us who haven't been indoctrinated with a whitewashed version of American History, blacks in America codified by law did not have the same rights as whites until 1965 (law only)

According to St. Ronnie God not government grants our rights. In case DeSantis forgot the history he taught the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT passed the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the 1965 Voting Rights Act. Whose fault is it black people under law were denied rights until 1965?

Gods fault or man's fault? Geez, this guy taught history so maybe he can explain his answer.
Ron DeSantis on what being conservative means: 'Our rights come from God, not government' (msn.com)
“The foundation of it is understanding the American project,” DeSantis told Fox News host Mark Levin on Sunday. “Our rights come from God, not the government. The founders rejected the divine right of kings.” “We have these God-given rights,” he continued

DeSantis is calling on the religious right to come to him and raise him on high as the champion of White Christianity, the only legitimate Christian denomination in the USA.

And of course, the conservative racist sheeple will agree because DeSantis invoked the name of God in order to sell rally tickets and scam for votes in the name of all that's holy.

DeSantis appoint author of don't say gay law to be in charge of the new Disney district. But don't worry again this is just all for show and he's going to completely respect our institutions and all our diversity if he gets into power. There is no chance he wouldn't.

Why was slavery supported by non-slave owners? Slave owners were a very small minority within the white portion of the population in the south back then.

Why…it was God and the Bible’s teachings (distorted to fit narrative) that gave credence to blacks being sub-human and slave material, and if God is always right, then slavery of blacks was A-OK.

And these fundies seem to almost exclusively look to the Old Testament, completely ignoring, for the most part, the New Testament…ya know, the one that has love thy brother as thy self? Odd, that.
And it’s an attitude that exists today…a group’s interpretation of the Bible trumps everything, and God already said there’s no damned equality unless ur in the “right” group.

I think the reason was different, it was that even though you’re a poor white farmer barelt getting by you could feel better knowing you were ‘better’ than the slaves. People like that.

Our rights come from rough men with guns.
Pretty much. Once we cast aside the gods, then rights can only come from us. We decide what rights we have. Then the issue becomes one of defending those rights against those who would trample them. Collective defense against jackasses seems to work better than private justice so we end up with governments and all the mess that entails.

Also you guys realize you’re being played by DeSantis, right? His entire goal is to do things like this to get liberals mad at him so he gets attention.

Are you sure about that?

He's completely reforming education system in FL as well as effectively punishing his critics (see Disney). See what he did to the New College board as well.

As soon as DeSantis gets power, if he does, then he clearly will throttle way down and start to respect our institutions. All is well.

Give it a fucking rest already, and stop acting like a smartass 15 year old. JFC, man. You could at least put a little effort into your sarcasm. Instead, you're being a broken record and stomping your feet, insisting nobody agrees with you, and you're just a supposed island of reason and reality.

It's a bit retarded, just sayin'.

We know that you think this is all an act, and deep down DeSantis truly respects our core institutions and we shouldn't worry much because no matter the evidence contrary, he definitely will respect them.

I think that's fool hardy, but that's just me. (Actually a lot of people agree with me)

DeSantis is actually implementing almost everything he's supposedly only talking about. Just for reference.
Of course but he will lose in the courts. That doesn't matter to him though because the goal is not to implement policy, it's to get attention.

What has he lost so far? Has anything he's signed been significantly challenged yet?

I am sure you intended to use the word destroying instead of reforming

In any case DeSantis is doing these things in the interest of pissing off liberals and virtual signaling to Trump’s base that he is their guy. Those are his only goals because he plans on riding this crap to the White House.

I think given the opportunity DeSantis will take trumps extremism to the next level.

in this case, he’s trying to appeal to the religious fundie base. It’s all about the culture war, which makes guys like him and trump a danger to democracy.

they will of course claim to be saving America when they overthrow our current system.
